Hey y’all! My name is Abby Heath and I am 20 years old and a sophomore at Liberty University studying Event Planning and Strategic Communication with a focus on social media marketing management. I want to tell y’all a little bit about myself and why I created Refresh! I was born in Alabama but moved to Georgia when I was younger. My plans are to move back to the state of Alabama after I graduate college because I love it there so much. I love shopping, trying new foods, hanging out with friends, and going to the beach.
I am a Christian and have been basically all my life. I grew up in a Christian home and both my parents worked in ministry. My dad was a pastor and my mom worked in youth and children’s ministry. I was dedicated as a baby and sprinkle baptized but I never actually understood the concept of having a relationship with the Lord. When I was thirteen years old, I went to summer camp where the theme was, “A Life in Color.” The sermons really convicted me and I realized I was not actively pursuing the Lord and I was living a black-and-white life. That was when I fully understood the gospel and wanted to surrender my life to Christ and start having a relationship with Jesus. I was re-baptized on June 13, 2019, and have walked with the Lord ever since.
I have a passion for sharing the gospel through social media which is why I chose the major of strategic communications. My goal is to work for a Christian company or organization by running their social media accounts and planning their events. I believe that whatever talents the Lord gives you, can be used to bring glory back to Him.
I have always loved pouring into young girls. I was the captain of a cheer team in high school and had the opportunity to pour into those girls. Through this opportunity, I learned how to lead humbly, give Godly advice, use discernment, influence in a positive way, and bring glory to Christ. This opportunity also taught me how serving others requires selflessness, which made some of my own anxieties and problems not so prevalent. Once I got to college, I was not seeking any opportunities to pour into anyone, which enlarged my own problems. Sophomore year, I decided it was time to start using my gifts for others. I did not feel called to be a community group leader on my hall because my hall leadership was not the best this year. I reached out to the youth leader at my church, The Hope Company, in order to help lead the high school or middle school girls. Unfortunately, they had too many female leaders serving and they did not need any more help. Throughout this process of waiting for an answer from the youth leader, I felt like the Lord was telling me to start a ministry of my own. I ignored Him because the thought of starting a ministry from the ground up terrified me. After I was rejected by the youth leader, I decided that the Lord really wanted me to dive into my own ministry. After many prayers, I felt like the Lord was leading me to start a Bible study for freshmen girls at Liberty University. I wanted to pour into those girls because life is hard as a freshman in college, and I wish I had a community like Refresh to help me get through it. Refresh started January 30, 2024, and we have about 30 girls attending each week as we go through the book of Esther. I am so thankful for what the Lord has done through Refresh, and I can’t wait to see more of what He is going to do!
